Join Leeds-based illustrator and printmaker Abbie Mooney for an introduction to the art of concertina books.
Concertina is a really playful technique that can be used to create a variety of books andsketchbooks and combined with other techniques to create more complex outcomes. In this introductory session, Abbie will guide you through the process of constructing a simple concertina as well as making a decorative hard cover which will enable you to add colour and personality to your book.
Hardcovers can be made from a variety of printed papers so please do bring any decorative papers, wrapping paper or old artworks you may wish to use. It’s a fantastic opportunity to repurpose some old paper into a unique book cover. A range of cover papers will also be provided so please do not worry if you do not have any to hand.
This workshop is perfect for beginners or those who have tried other bookbinding processes before, as you will be equipped with the skills to combine new and familiar techniques to make a book that is personal to you.
You will leave the workshop with one handmade book and a helpful guide to keep you going at home.
The ticket price also includes a complimentary hot drink and baked treat from Slow Rise Bakery.
